A new bathroom, kitchen, or addition needs a drain that slopes correctly and ties into the existing sewer. A line installed uphill or without a cleanout will clog and is expensive to redo.

What a proper drain install includes
Slope, material, and cleanout placement matter as much as the pipe itself. We match the system already in your neighbourhood so the new work does not fight the old. A basement bath that ties in too high or too flat will be the first fixture to back up.

Planning the run before anyone cuts
We look at fixture locations, the existing main, and what sits above the path — slab, lawn, or a finished ceiling. A legal basement suite has different vent and drain needs than a powder room. We would rather move a vanity on paper than chase a trap under a poured floor.
Permits apply on many new connections. We tell you when the city needs to see the work. Surprises on inspection day are how projects stall.
How installation day goes
We open the path, set pipe on the correct grade, install cleanouts, and connect to the existing sewer. We test flow and camera the new run before we bury it. If a joint is wrong, we fix it while the trench is open.
Restoration is part of the scope. You should know whether we are closing a lawn, a slab, or leaving the finish for your renovator. That belongs in the written estimate, not a conversation after the dirt is back in.
What a bad install costs later
A drain without a cleanout turns every clog into a demolition. A drain with the wrong slope clogs even when you use it carefully. A drain that fights the old main can push sewage toward a basement floor drain. We have repaired other people’s installs. It is always more expensive than doing the grade right the first time.
When to call

If the existing main is clay or cast iron and already failing, we may recommend replacing that run while the ground is open. One excavation is cheaper than two.
New drain versus repairing the old one
A renovation is the wrong time to reuse a clay or cast-iron run that already clogs. If we are opening the floor for a new bath, we will camera the existing main and tell you whether it can take another fixture. Adding a toilet to a failing line is how a new bathroom backs up on week two.
We also install cleanouts on existing lines when the house has none. That is a small install that saves every future cleaning visit from becoming a toilet pull. Main drain via cleanout starts at $325. Via the toilet flange it is $450. The cleanout pays for itself on the next backup.
Commercial kitchens and extra laundry rooms need grease planning, not only a pipe. We will say when a larger diameter or a different tie-in is required. Guessing the size from a hardware-store fitting is how restaurants pay for a second install.
What you should have ready
A floor plan or a marked-up sketch is enough. We need to know where the new toilet, shower, and sinks will sit, and whether the basement slab is already open. If a renovator is already on site, we can work to their schedule so the drain is in before the floor goes back.

What happens if a drain is installed with the wrong slope?
Solids settle instead of leaving the house. The line clogs, smells, and may need to be dug up and reset. That is why we set grade carefully and test flow before backfill. A cheap install that runs uphill is the expensive one.
Can you add a cleanout when you install a new drain?
Yes, and we recommend it. A cleanout makes the next camera or snake simple. Installing a new run without one means the next clog may require pulling a toilet or opening the floor.
