Hydro Jetting in Toronto

Updated August 18, 2026

City Rooter uses hydro jetting to scrub grease, sludge, and scale from drain and sewer walls after a camera inspection. It is the right next step when snaking only punches a hole and the clog returns. Call (647) 534-6875 for a written estimate.

  • Clogs return after snaking
  • Grease or sludge on a camera inspection
  • Several fixtures draining slowly

Hydro jetting in Toronto

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scrub grease, sludge, and scale from the pipe wall. A snake can punch a hole through a clog and leave the coating behind, which is why the same drain comes back a week later.

We camera the line first. Jetting is the right tool when the pipe is intact and the problem is buildup. It is the wrong tool on a collapsed or badly cracked line — and we will say so.

This is still drain cleaning, not a repair. If the camera shows a break, we stop and quote repair or replacement. Jetting a failed pipe wastes money and can make a crack worse.

When hydro jetting is the better choice

Kitchen mains with grease, lines that clog after every snake, and pipes with sludge on the camera all respond better to jetting than to another cable. Restaurants and busy family kitchens see this most. The grease cools, sticks, and narrows the pipe until water barely moves.

A foul smell that returns after a basic clean is often leftover coating, not a new clog. Jetting removes that film. Snaking does not.

  • Recurring clogs after snaking
  • Grease or sludge coating the pipe wall
  • Slow drainage in several fixtures
  • Foul odour that returns after a basic clean
  • Scale narrowing an older line
  • A camera that shows buildup, not a broken pipe

How a jetting visit works

We confirm access — a cleanout is best — and run the camera. If the line is a candidate, we jet, then camera again so you can see a clean wall. We run water at the fixtures and confirm the backup is gone.

If we find roots, we clear what jetting can take and show you whether the joint still needs repair. Roots that return every season are a pipe problem, not a cleaning schedule.

Jetting versus snaking versus chemicals

Snaking is the right first step for a hair clog in a tub or a localized kitchen blockage. Starting rates: shower or tub $225, kitchen sink $350, main via cleanout $325. Jetting is the next step when that will not last.

Chemical cleaners sit on the clog, can damage the pipe, and make the line hazardous to open. We do not recommend them. If you already poured a cleaner, tell us before we start.

After hydro jetting

Keep grease out of the kitchen sink. Wipe pans. Use a strainer. A clean pipe will stay clean longer if you stop feeding it fat. For older mains, a yearly camera is cheaper than another emergency backup.

Call (647) 534-6875 if the same drain has already been snaked and the water is slow again. We will inspect first and jet only if the pipe can take it.

Kitchen grease and restaurant lines

Household kitchens clog from cooled fat. Commercial kitchens clog faster. Jetting is the usual reset when a snake has already punched a hole through the grease and the line is slow again a week later. We still camera first. A grease-coated line and a collapsed line look the same from the sink.

If the camera shows a sound pipe, jetting can put years back on it. If it shows a belly or a break, jetting is not the product. We will quote the repair instead. That conversation is the difference between a clean pipe and a flooded kitchen.

Homeowners who pour oil down the sink after every fry-up will be back. We will say that. A strainer and a bin for fat cost less than another jetting visit.

When we will not jet

We will not jet a line the camera shows as collapsed, paper-thin, or already leaking into the soil. High-pressure water belongs in a sound pipe. If the video is ugly, the next step is repair or replacement. That is the honest call, even if you booked us for jetting.

They saved us from a major plumbing disaster. Tree roots clogged the drain. The team snaked the line, excavated, replaced the damaged pipe, and installed a cleanout. Professional, efficient, and fair.

Frequently asked questions

Is hydro jetting safe for pipes?

Yes when the pipe is intact. City Rooter cameras the line first. We do not jet a collapsed or badly cracked pipe. High-pressure water is chemical-free and scrubs the wall instead of punching a hole through a clog.

When do I need hydro jetting instead of snaking?

Choose jetting when a snake already failed, the camera shows grease or sludge on the wall, or several fixtures are slow. Snaking opens a path. Jetting cleans the pipe. Recurring kitchen clogs are the most common case.

How much does hydro jetting cost in Toronto?

Jetting is scoped after we see the line. It costs more than a basic snake because it is a fuller clean. A kitchen sink snake starts at $350 and a main via cleanout at $325. If those will not last, we quote jetting and a camera before we start. Call (647) 534-6875.
